The i3 version is also available for those who are on a tighter budget. Whether for gaming, streaming, content creation, or video editing, the KS processor's capabilities are unmatched among Intel processors. You will need at least a 360mm custom or AIO liquid cooler to tame this beast. We make it all and you can have a wander around out main website to polish off your upcoming upgrade
Intel K, KS, KF and F - How to Read Processor Labels and What They Actually Mean (Guide 2025)
Introduction
In the naming of Intel processors, the letters at the end of the model (so-called suffixes) carry important information about the functions and purpose of a particular chip.

Should You Buy The Core i9-13900KS? But keep in mind that as shown by the people over at anandtech.com, despite its marginally lower clock speeds (we are talking only a 0.1-0.2 GHz difference) compared to the KS series CPU, the Intel® Core i9-14900K is still a fantastic option, only slightly outperformed by the Intel® Core i9-14900KS on single-threaded tests.
Regarding the Intel® Core i9-14900F, we don’t feel like recommending it at this point in time for its current price, mainly because of its relatively low performance compared to cheaper alternatives.

What is the difference between the K, KS, F and KF CPUs from Intel?
Intel has been a household name for decades and is globally renowned for manufacturing CPUs (Central Processing Unit) for OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and mainstream PC consumers.
However, it's important to keep in mind that in order to unlock this feature, you will require a motherboard capable of supporting an overclocked CPU, along with a high-performance liquid cooler, such as the CORSAIR All-In-One Liquid CPU Coolers, to dissipate the thermal heat generated by the CPU effectively. So when compared to the 7700X, the Core i9-13900KS is only around 3% to 5% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X.
To date, only Hardware Unboxed was able to publish a review of the Core i9-13900KS. If you're looking for a budget-friendly option that can handle basic computer tasks without needing a gaming rig, then the F series is a great choice. From gaming, streaming, and content creation to video editing, they are all well within the KF CPU capability as long that you pair it with a high-performance graphics card (GPU).
Those looking to kick it old-school might opt for our A115 air cooler, instead.
Overclocking a CPU requires a deep understanding of how the CPU functions when pushed beyond its default speed. The real difference between the two CPUs is the clock speeds and price.
The Core i9-13900KS has a maximum turbo frequency of 6GHz and an Intel Thermal Velocity Boost frequency of 6GHz.
Just like the previous “KS” variant of processors, the Core i9-13900KS is simply a heavily binned or carefully selected silicone that can reach 6GHz easily. You can save money by choosing the KF series and use that extra cash to invest in high-quality PC hardware such as PSUs and DRAM.
In terms of use case, the KF processors are more than capable of handling what the K series CPUs can handle.

Building a PC nowadays is not cheap, so spending less on a CPU would be helpful. If you go over its thermal limit, you will be unable to squeeze out all that extra power.
So, if your budget allows it, and you can splurge on a top-notch cooling system such as AIO liquid cooling (read more about cooling systems here), then we would definitely recommend spending the extra money to buy an Intel® Core i9-14900KS.
I’m also waiting for AMD’s Ryzen 7000X3D processors and see how they perform.
But we know the 7700X is a “better” gaming CPU than the 7950X. Unlike the typical Core i9-13900K(F), the KS variant features a heavily or carefully selected silicone that makes it possible to achieve 6GHz of clock speed out of the box.
Both the Core i9-13900KS and Core i9-13900K are basically identical CPUs.
That’s only a 200MHz difference. However, at what cost?
While the Core i9-13900KS is indeed faster, it is also significantly more expensive than the regular Core i9-13900K(F) CPU. Well, this wasn’t a value CPU in the first place.
